Rich Lotus Car History
The Lotus Car Company was formed in England in 1952 as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by Colin Chapman an engineering graduate of University College, London.
Lotus entered their first car in Formula One 1 in 1958, and always encouraged its clients to race their cars. In the 1960 a privately owned Lotus 18 driven by Sterling Moss won the Monaco Grand Prix. Lotus then won the first Formula One Constructors Championship in 1963 with iconic British driver Jim Clarke, and in 1968, Clarke’s teammate Graham Hill won the Formula One Championship. While Lotus’s last Formula One race was in 1994, they were the first team to have achieved 50 victories, winning a total of 79 Grand Prix races.
Race Car Technology
At the forefront of racing car innovation, Lotus is credited with many technologies including the first mid-engine sports car, the first monocoque Formula One chassis, pioneers in aerodynamic body styling to create downforce and inventing active suspension. Lotus innovation continues to be applied to their current cars, where private owners put them to best use in numerous racing events around the world.
